The Record
Harthing is live
09 October 2026 · William Harford, Co-founder & CEO, Harther Ltd
In June I wrote that we would decide the launch date in mid-July. We did decide it, several times. What took the time was a substantial rebuild of the backend and the interface, and the HMRC approval process for Making Tax Digital, which ran to its own calendar, shall we say.
However, both are now done and you can create an account today, using the Get started button at the top of this page.
What is in it
The short list: document reading, compliance tracking and reminders, finances kept ready for Making Tax Digital, maintenance logging, a document vault, a bank connection, and an email address you forward things to.
In practice it works like this. You add a property by postcode. You drag in whatever documents you have, and Harthing reads each one, works out what it is and which property it belongs to, and puts what it found in front of you to confirm or correct. Expiry dates go into the diary as it goes. You connect your bank, and rent arriving and bills leaving are sorted into the categories HMRC uses. Anything that turns up by email, an invoice, a statement, a certificate, you forward to your Harthing address and it is read and filed the same way. When something breaks, you log it with a photograph, assign the contractor, and mark it scheduled and done.
Underneath all of that sits the Accountability Record: a numbered, append-only, hash-chained list of everything that happens on a property, with the time each line was written set by the system rather than by you. It is the reason Harthing produces evidence rather than notes, and it is the part a spreadsheet or a folder of PDFs cannot give you after the fact. When you need it, you export the lot as one document.
HMRC
Harthing is recognised by HMRC for Making Tax Digital quarterly updates, and files them for you. Your quarterly update drafts itself from your records as the quarter goes along, with the deadline and the net figure in view; when you are ready you connect to HMRC and send it. The next one is due on 7 November 2026.
We have also applied to HMRC to file end of year returns. I will write here with updates on that; we hope to have it ready in time for the next return date.
What it costs
Three bands, and every band has the whole product in it. Ember is £5.99 a month for up to two properties. Hearth is £8.99 for three to five. Keep is £10.99 for six or more. Prices include VAT. The band is about how many properties you have, not how much of Harthing you are allowed. If you cancel, you keep everything to the end of the period you paid for, and then your account goes read only for twelve months so you can still sign in and export. We do not delete your records when you stop paying.
If you signed up early
If you registered interest early and qualified for a free period, we match it by the email address you used at the time, so create your account with that address if you can. If you would rather use a different one, reply to the launch email and tell me which, and I will move it across.
Setting up an account asks for payment details. You will not be charged until your free period ends, and you can cancel before then without paying. If handing over card details up front is a problem, say so. I would rather hear about it than lose you over it.
What we have not built
A tenant side. Harthing is for the landlord. Your tenant does not see the record unless you show it to them, and the evidence bundle exists so that you can. We have built the platform with a future tenant app in mind, but what and when we build will depend on feedback from our users.
An app in a store. Harthing works in the browser on your phone and can be added to the home screen. That is deliberate for now (it helps us keep the price low), but if enough people want one, we can roll it out fairly quickly.
Writing to us
If you write to hello@harthing.co.uk it comes direct to me, not to a support inbox. If something does not work, or irritates you, or you want to know whether Harthing does a particular thing (now, or planned), write and I will answer.
Good letting, on the record.
